A part of going through puberty is experiencing changes in your body. Unfortunately, one of those changes is extra oil in the skin which leads to acne like blackheads.

Blackheads were given that name because of the blackish color of the bump that appears on the skin. They are embedded in our pores and can be either black or yellow in color.

Blackheads are normally a precursor to acne and pimples. They appear before bacteria fills our pores and causes inflammation.

Our oil glands go into overdrive once we hit puberty and leads to blackheads on the back, face, chest and shoulders. Oily makeup, taking drugs and eating greasy foods can cause a myriad of acne disorders.

Developing blackheads can also be hereditary or they can be caused by a less than thorough cleaning. Without proper cleaning, the pores can accumulate dead skin cells. These cells can clog our pores and allow our natural oils to build up.

Oil can also be caused by using too much make-up. This is not limited to foundation and blushes; this also applies to moisturizers and sunscreen. This is why it is so important to remove products from our face before going to bed. But be careful; too much cleansing can lead to skin irritation.

You can prevent blackheads by cleaning our skin thoroughly on a daily basis. Find a facial mask that will decrease blackheads and open pores. Use a mild soap for your face and work hard to maintain good hygiene.

Healthy eating, especially during puberty, will help prevent acne as well. Oils like omega-3 and omega-6, which are found in fish, should be consumed and replace the excess sugar and greasy foods that may already be a part of our diet.

If you already have blackheads, there are safe and easy ways to get rid of them. If there is no infection, you can remove it yourself with sterile materials. Steam the skin for a few minutes first to loosen the pores. This will make the process less painful for you. There are blackhead removers available at beauty stores.

If the area is inflamed or irritated, do not attempt to remove it yourself. Doing so will cause scarring and make the blackhead worse. Dermatologists are also available to remove blackheads for you via a deep facial cleansing.

Being dedicated to proper hygiene and eating right is the key to keeping your skin clear.
